A Walk by Oita River

Note: this is an old post that I have republished. It was first written in January of 2014. I have enlarged the painting because the original image was very small. Also I no longer have the original painting. I probably threw it away because I thought it wasn’t so good.

Today, I went painting by Oita river. The sun was hidden behind a low bank of clouds for most of the morning and there was a constant cold wind but I was delighted with this scene and it kept me going. I finished shivering but happy. I returned home with the sun coming out of the clouds and the temperature rising!

Below is the original image.

I am an Englishman living and painting in Japan. I have now been here for over 17 years and have been painting for all that time. I love to travel around the Japanese countryside and find beautiful places to paint.
