Painting the last glow of the day
A few weeks ago, I suddenly found myself with some free time. It was late afternoon and cold. So I jumped on my bike with my watercolor gear and started roaming the streets looking for a scene to paint.

These pictures are of a small Japanese city that I live in called Oita. They were painted in 2014. Around this period there was a lot of major construction work occurring around the city center. New roads, a new bridge and a new train station were built. And the area around the train station was completely transformed.
There has been a lot of construction going on in the city where I live. And this construction has created a road with a beautiful, panoramic view of the city. This is because the area next to the road has become a temporary natural wasteland with no buildings upon it. And I have wasted no time in getting out and painting this amazing view from the road.
Here are some of my earliest cityscape paintings in Japan. These paintings are of a place called Shinmachi which is near Oita city center. I also talk about the four times I became interested in art throughout my life.
