Watercolor Painting of a Man Waving Flags

I really enjoyed painting this picture. I had an army of school children walking past me while I was painting making complimentary comments which was great.

I originally wrote this tiny article on the 18th of January 2014. I am editing it in March of 2021. I was in two minds about whether to show it because it is such a tiny article and also because I no longer have a good image to show. This was a small image that I’ve blown up to a bigger size and tried to sharpen with a photo editing app. I believe that I’ve thrown the original painting away which surprises me because I think it looks quite good. I especially like the building in the middle because of its dramatic perspective and I like the warm color I used with the buildings.

This painting shows some construction work going on in the city. This year there was a lot of construction work going on and I did a small series of paintings depicting this construction work which you can see here.

I am an Englishman living and painting in Japan. I have now been here for over 17 years and have been painting for all that time. I love to travel around the Japanese countryside and find beautiful places to paint.
