These watercolor paintings came from many trips into the Japanese countryside. It took a long time to find these beautiful places.
I once got stuck on this mountain all night.

A few years ago I tried to travel to Yufuin a "fairly" picturesque tourist town. But nearly every time I stopped about half-way in a place called Shonai because I saw some beautiful scene. Here are some of those beautiful scenes.

These paintings came from trips into the Japanese countryside. It took a long time to find these places and now I have a number of favorite haunts. Some of them, like visiting Ubuyama, came from family trips that my wife planned. Yufudake is a mountain I got stuck on all night! And Shonai is a place that I often intended just to drive through but then I happened to see something interesting and so stopped and did a painting. The Stony path is from Kuju is a beautiful national park that I love to visit.
A creative narrative of painting a stony countryside path.
